One Roof Needs Our Help

I hope each of you had a wonderful Christmas and a relaxed New Year!

One of our partners, One Roof, will be working to complete a point-in-time survey of Birmingham's homeless community on January 23. Volunteers and trained workers will be passing out hygiene kits to each person. 

One Roof needs:

As a church, we have signed up to provide them with chapstick. Bring a few chapsticks to the community ministries' offices by January 17. One Roof also needs volunteers to help complete the survey and speak with our homeless community members.


Our Blessing Box needs for this week include:

Food

Canned vegetables
Canned carrots
Canned chicken

Hygiene (best deals on hygiene products are usually at Dollar Tree)

Paper towels
Plastic grocery bags (we can reuse the ones you have!)

Weekend Buddy Bag needs:

Packaged grits
Easy Mac

Upcoming events in Community Ministries:

Social Justice Book Club: January 18 and January 24

Join the IPC Social Justice Book Club to discuss the book, "Poverty, By America" written by Matthew Desmond. We will split the discussion in two, with one hosted at Thank You Books on Thursday, Jan. 18 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm and the other at IPC on Wednesday, January 24 at 11:30 am with lunch (register here). Even if you can’t make both sessions, please feel free to join in the conversation. Thank you to Roger McCullough and Jean Shanks for helping to facilitate our book study.

First Light Dinner Service: January 28-February 3 

Volunteer with your family or a group to provide evening meals for the women and children staying at First Light. If you have any questions about service or getting a group together, contact Sarah Scruggs.
