Fall is Back! (Sort of)

Family of Faith: Back to School Kickoff

It is hard to believe that school has already kicked off for the year, though it does not feel much like fall yet to me. But don’t forget, in conjunction with the start of school, Sunday, August 13, will be our Fall Family of Faith Kickoff as we return to our normal worship schedule with services in the sanctuary at 8:45 am and 11 am, Sunday school at 10 am, and the Table service at 5 pm in Highland Hall where you can always come as you are.

I am excited to be back in the pulpit to begin a new sermon series called “Why, Jesus?” as we read through the second chapter of Mark over the next four weeks. I’m sure all of us at times have wondered why Jesus does or doesn’t do certain things in our lives. It was no different in his day; people often asked “Why?” in response to something he or his disciples had done. In responding to these questions, Jesus gives us great insight into who he is and what he came to do.

During the 11 am service, we will have a Blessing of the Backpacks. We encourage kids of all ages who are starting school to bring your backpack to church and participate as we ask God’s blessing upon the coming academic year.

I hope you will register for our Kickoff Lunch with your church family in Highland Hall after the 11 am service and get a chance to catch up with one another after a summer of travel and other activities. Our 5 pm Table band will provide musical entertainment. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with many of you there. You can register here.

From 5-7 pm on Sunday, all 7th - 12th graders are invited to Blackjack Farms to celebrate the start of the new school year. I am sure it will be a lot of fun.

Sunday is going to be a big day! I look forward to seeing all of you!
