March 18, 2020 PNC Update on Pastor Search

All,

The Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) is continuing to prayerfully work towards identifying IPC’s new Pastor and Head of Staff while we all grapple with the effects and limitations caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. Since our last update, our committee has completed and gained approval of IPC Ministry Information Form (MIF), which is now posted on the PCUSA’s Church Leadership Connection portal and available to candidates within the denomination. As you can see, we’ve also developed our own website, which includes information for both our congregation and potential candidates to learn more about IPC’s search for its new Pastor. Importantly, potential candidates can now provide the PNC with their resumes and Pastor Information Forms (PIF) directly through the email box referenced on the webpage. Our progress on these items has opened IPC up to potential candidates both through the denominations resources as well as from our own outreach.

These steps have had their intended effect, and we have begun to receive resumes and PIFs through both channels. In addition, many in the congregation have recommended pastor candidates to the PNC directly. We welcome those recommendations and encourage all of our members to send us names, bios, and links to potential candidates we should consider and perhaps contact to gauge interest. We are convinced that the more candidates we are able to consider, the more likely we are to find the right Pastor to lead us into this new chapter of IPC’s life.

As this process progresses, we’ll plan to continue to provide updates to the congregation as often as once a month but no less than once a quarter (if necessary). While the search is underway, you may be curious you how you can help. Please consider the following:

1. Consider what you are looking for in a new Pastor and let us know. We hope to be sending out a survey to the congregation shortly but getting direct feedback in the form of emails and letters always help add context and insights. We want to identify the pastor that will meet the needs of all of our members and the only way to do that is through feedback from our members. Let us know what you think and what you are hoping for in our new pastor (and do send us your recommendations).

2. Keep IPC and the PNC in your prayers – Our PNC has a deep love for our IPC and is committed to finding the right Pastor and Head of Staff for our church. But finding that pastor isn’t easy or quick. Our committee needs your prayers and would appreciate you sending those to us through our email if you feel moved to do so. Please also pray for our pastor candidates and that God’s will be done through this search. We greatly appreciate the help, feedback, and prayers you all can provide and will continue to update you as our process continues. And, to the extent you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us through email and refer to the materials posted to our web page.

Finally, join us in the comfort of the good news of the Gospel: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8.

Faithfully yours,
