Construction Preparation
Needed repairs and improvements to Highland Hall will begin in November, made possible through a generous gift from a member of our church family. This work will help care for a space that serves so many of IPC’s ministries, events, and gatherings.
Brasfield & Gorrie will begin staging equipment the week of Nov. 2, including cranes needed for the steeple removal. Construction work begins Monday, Nov. 9, and the steeple removal is expected to take six to eight weeks. Please watch for posted signs, follow directions around work areas, and use extra care when walking or driving near Highland Hall. Highland Hall is expected to remain closed through the end of April.
The Table Moves to the Great Hall Nov. 8
Beginning Sunday, Nov. 8, join us for the Table at 5 pm in the Great Hall in IPC’s main building. Stay after that evening’s service for a special light supper as we settle into our temporary worship space together.
You may enter through any main-building entrance. The Chapel entrance is closest: come through the doors and head up the stairs to the Great Hall. For elevator access, enter through the Parlor doors.
What Work Is Planned?
The most visible exterior change will be the removal of the steeple due to structural concerns. Following meetings with the Highland Park Neighborhood Association and the City of Birmingham, approval was granted for its removal because repair was no longer a practical or responsible option.
Additional improvements include replacing roof shingles, resealing gutters and exterior walls to stop water intrusion, repairing and painting damaged interior walls, and installing new carpet in the Assembly Hall. The original heating and cooling systems will also be replaced. Electrical updates and secure magnetic locks are scheduled for February and March.
Where Programs Will Meet
