Spring Cleaning

Is spring cleaning on your mind?

Here are two, quick and easy tips:

You can swap traditional cleaning supplies for non-toxic, eco-friendly options. The Eco-Care Team invites you to explore the Environmental Working Group’s rating system at EWG.org to find safer products.

Also, consider supporting IPC's Spring Cleaning For Good event. It benefits two organizations impacting the greater Birmingham community. Please join our efforts as we collect bicycles in any condition, men’s gently worn/new tennis shoes or work boots, gently worn/new adult t-shirts, new socks (men’s sizes), and new washcloths. Through Tuesday, April 30, bring your items to Community Ministries on the ground floor.

Our bicycles will go to Trips for Kids, an organization that refurbishes used bicycles for students in the Birmingham area and teaches bike safety. Our other goods will go to Faith Chapel Care Center, a partner that provides shower and laundry services to our homeless neighbors.

Any additional unwanted clothing, appliances, and furniture can be donated to a reputable charity or second-hand shop. Giving these items a second life helps the environment and helps others; you may also be eligible for a tax deduction.

Prepare for Earth Day with a Birmingham-Area Event
  • Earthbound Earth Fest: Each year, the rock band Earthbound headlines an outdoor concert at Avondale Brewing Company that benefits Black Warrior Riverkeeper. (Did you know that IPC sits in the Black Warrior watershed?) Held on Satuday, April 20, a $5 donation is suggested upon entry to the event which features food trucks, art, and merchandise for purchase. The event is family-friendly, however, guests under 21 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

  • Earth Day at the Botanical Gardens: The Birmingham Botanical Gardens will host their annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 27 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm. You are invited to come to the gardens to cultivate a passion for plants, gardens, and the environment (with the added bonus of a family yoga class at 1:00pm). This event is free and open to anyone who wants to join.

  • Ruffner Mountain Guided Hike: Ruffner Mountain will offer a guided wildflower hike at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 23 in celebration of Earth Day. It will be a light hike lasting about an hour. There is no cost for the hike itself, however, parking passes will need to be purchased.

Did you know?

This is IPC’s 8th consecutive year to be a certified Earth Care Congregation.

To become certified as Earth Care Congregations, churches take the “Earth Care Pledge” and complete activities and projects in the fields of worship, education, facilities, and outreach.
