In our educational ministry we strive for knowledge and understanding of the biblical story, application of God’s story in our everyday lives and service of compassion, reconciliation and justice in Christ’s name.
Sunday school classes meet from 10- 10:50 am for regular on-going Bible study classes August- May, as well as ones on special topics. There are classes for every stage in life.
IPC also offers several daily classes September- May. Options include book groups, Bible study with IPC ministers, yoga and a strength identifier program. Most of the classes meet around lunchtime at IPC. Only Bible Study with Margaret Northen and Bill Shanks' Friday Morning Bible Study are on-going and offered in the summer.
Wednesday Night Classes
During the school year, dinner and special classes are offered on Wednesday nights. Dinner is served from 5:15 - 6:15 pm in the Great Hall. Classes on a wide variety of subjects from religion to literature to parenting to marriage are available to IPC members.
Barbara Noojin Walthall Bible Study Series
This lecture series is made possible by a fund established by the Walthall family in memory of Barbara Walthall. Christine Yoder, Barbara Rossing, Kathleen O'Connor, Cynthia Rigby, Carol Newsom and Amy-Jill Levine have been featured in the past. Watch the events page for the next speaker.
Focus on Faith
Focus on Faith provides educational and inspirational events. Recent speakers include Walter Brueggemann, Lillian Daniel, Fred Craddock, Craig Barnes, Will Willimon, Phyllis Tickle, Claudio Carvalheaes and Tony Campolo. The committee also sponsors educational trips to theological seminaries.
Highland Avenue Forum
Our mission is to engage the entire IPC family and our community and neighbors in discussing and addressing together issues of compassion, peace, and justice and to inspire faithful action. The Highland Avenue Forum helps increase community awareness of issues of civic and ethical consequence through lectures and panel discussions.
