The breath of God has infused the human mind and inspired artists through the ages. We experience God though all our senses.
Independent Presbyterian Church has played a significant role in music and the arts in Birmingham. The November Organ Recital Series began in 1965 and is one of the longest running organ series in the nation. Both the organ recital and annual Religious Arts Festivals bring world-class artists to the area. Since the first Christmas Concert in 1964, the IPC Choir has presented more than 175 concerts and special services locally and around the world.
All of these free, public events are funded through endowments and the yearly operating budget of the church. Please join us and experience God in new ways through the arts.

Annual Religious Arts Festival
For more than 50 years, guest speakers and artists with expertise in drama, music, dance, architecture, sculpture, literature, and art have been brought to the city for an annual week-long program.
The 52nd Annual Religious Arts Festival will be held Sunday, Jan. 29 - Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023.
Spring Concert
IPC's choir, accompanied by a small orchestra, performs each spring on a Sunday at 4 pm in Sanctuary.

The IPC Choir, accompanied by special guests and members of the Alabama Symphony, will perform the Lord Nelson Mass by Haydn at 4 pm in the sanctuary. This is not your boring, polite "classical music" from your college music appreciation class. This is dramatic, lively, and playful music that will sweep you away in spite of yourself from the first strike of the drum and the sharp, clear "Kyrie" to the final, satisfying "Pacem."
Evensong at IPC
Join us at 4 pm in the Sanctuary or via livestream on select Sundays. Jan. 29, Feb. 26, and March 19.
-
Accompanied by a string quartet, the IPC Camerata will present Howard Keever's Evensong for a New Century, a musical work commissioned for IPC's 2015 Centennial.
A select group of singers from the IPC Choir, the IPC Camerata, is the resident ensemble for these services in the sanctuary. These services last about 40 minutes followed by an extended organ postlude.
This liturgy has been offered for nearly a thousand years. Here you will experience beauty, and welcome the voice of God into your heart through art, music, and liturgy.
November Organ Recital Series
Since 1965, this organ series has continued to attract people to IPC from the Birmingham community and beyond. Free concerts are held every Sunday afternoon in November in the Sanctuary. It features the Joseph W. Schreiber Memorial Organ built by Dobson Pipe Organ Builders Ltd.
Christmas Concert
Since 1965, the IPC Choir performs a free Christmas Concert in Advent every year on a Sunday afternoon in the Sanctuary for our members and the community.
Children's Music
Through songs, activities, and Bible study, children in grades 5K - 6th grade find new ways to worship through music.
Upcoming Music Events

At 4 pm, we will offer an Evensong featuring the choir and violinist Daniel Szasz. With music spanning from 10th-century chant to the year 2020, this is the perfect time to come, be still, and rest in the Heart of God.

Join us for the popular “Christ the King Hymn Festival” for choir and brass, and it will be offered Thanksgiving Weekend at the one service in the morning at 10 am. Now is the perfect time to tune up your vocal cords and sing the beautiful hymns of the church.
