Fellowship and Faith in Mexico

Over the summer, youth embarked on their mission trip to Chiapas, Mexico. They worked with members of local churches with light construction and painting. IPC youth Bebe Holloway reflects on the experience and connecting with people there.

During my time in Mexico, I truly connected with the people I met. Most of our group from IPC could not speak Spanish, but I used my formal Spanish that I learned in school to somewhat communicate. Although I could not have coherent conversations, our group felt a true connection with the villagers as we worked side by side with them. I also felt a strong connection with my fellow youth. Whether we struggled to finish our work in the villages during the day or discussed theology after dinner back at the house, we all got to know each other on a deeper level and will share a deep bond. Mr. Walthall and Mr. Dukes were great mentors to me throughout my time in Chiapas, and they pushed all of us to dig deeper in our faith and beliefs and lead deep discussions about our daily experiences and the purpose of mission work. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to spend time in fellowship and service with friends from IPC. I would recommend this trip to all youth because of how much I grew in my faith during my time in Chiapas.
