Weekend of Celebrations

This Season of Lent and this journey of sacrifice, prayer and reflection that we embarked on nearly 30 days ago is coming to a close. As is tradition here at IPC on Sunday, our faithful will celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem in our sanctuary at 8:45 and 11 am with palm crosses made by our Guild and a children’s palm processional. We will also confirm 14 ninth graders and recognize them as new members along with others during 11 am worship. All are then invited to our Second Sunday Lunch upstairs in the Great Hall following the service. There will also be a Second Sunday Supper in Highland Hall following the 5 pm worship service.

This weekend will be full of celebrations! Tonight, our first church opera production will be performed inside our sanctuary. IPC Music and Fine Arts Director Dr. Jeff McLelland has worked for years to bring “The Three Hermits” to IPC. This joint IPC- UAB Opera production features members of the IPC Choir. Runtime is only one hour, and both tonight’s and Saturday’s 7 pm performances are free. You can read more about it here. You won’t want to miss this or the Easter Egg Hunt, which moves to the Children’s Fresh Air Farm this year. Everyone is invited to the hunt Saturday beginning with a gathering in the chapel at 10 am. A light lunch will follow. As always, Kim Martin and her staff have created beautiful desserts for you to enjoy. Please help her staff prepare by RSVPing by Friday.

We will transition from a weekend of festivities to a more somber time as we remember Jesus’ final days. Maundy Thursday service will be at 7 pm, and Good Friday worship will begin at 12 pm next week. Our Easter Sunday services will be at 8, 9:30, and 11 am in the Sanctuary, as well as 5 pm in Highland Hall.

See you Sunday!
