Organist Damin Spritzer, Assistant Professor of Organ at the University of Oklahoma with the American Organ Institute and the Cathedral Church of Saint Matthew in Dallas as Artist-in-Residence for Cathedral Arts, will perform on Sunday, November 25 as the final artist in the 2018 November Organ Recital Series.
Q: What inspired you to become an organist?
A: I was inspired to become an organist when I was very small, and my father would play E. Power Biggs organ recordings for me. I thought they were majestic and beautiful beyond description!
Q: What do you look forward to the most whenever you sit at an organ for the first time?
A: I think things that I most cherish and look forward to each time I sit at a new instrument are what it has to teach me, and what sounds and/or characteristics are unique to it that I can hope to use in a beautiful way that emphasizes and enhances those things.
Q: What sounds to do look forward to hearing played on our Dobson?
A: I am very eager to hear the Tuba Mirabilis because of my love of English organ music, but I am equally as interested in hearing the Unda Maris (a stop for which I have a particular affinity) and the enclosed clarinet!
Hear Damin perform Sunday at 4 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
