Who We Are
Welcome to Independent Presbyterian Church. With Christ as our cornerstone, we are always grateful when we have an opportunity to share the good news of God’s grace with others.
Founded in 1915 in Birmingham, Alabama, Independent Presbyterian Church (IPC) remains true to the original mission -- proclamation of the gospel and ministry of community service. IPC is a member of the Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley, the Synod of Living Waters, and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) We are a congregation of approximately 2,300 members, and we support ministries dedicated to the glory of God, including excellence in worship, music and the arts, education for all ages, congregational care, and community and world missions. We hope you will join us soon in worship.

Living in Christ: The Cornerstone Initiatives
So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. Ephesians 2:19-21 (ESV)
The image of a cornerstone is used throughout the Old Testament to illustrate God’s promised redemption of humanity. Jesus identifies himself as the fulfillment of those prophecies, and the apostles Peter and Paul carry the image forward reminding the Church of her foundation. With this metaphor in mind, the strategic planning committee of Independent Presbyterian Church established a set of initiatives that are necessary to undergird the more specific priorities of Living in the Spirit, Living in Community, and Living in Service to Others.
