STAIR’s first day of the 2010-2011 school year is Monday, October 4.
Will you be there?
Tutor Training for new tutors and new substitute tutors will be Monday and Tuesday, September 13 and 14, 2010, from 3:00 -5:00 p.m. on the first floor at IPC.
Our goal is to have 24 students each from Gibson (Monday-Wednesday) and Whatley (Tuesday-Thursday) Schools. That means we need 96 weekly tutors, at least 15 substitute tutors, snack servers each day, Christmaselves, family dinner helpers, andmore. STAIR has developed quite a good reputation in the schools we serve. Last year we had a waiting list of students because we can only accept a student for whom we have tutors.
Don’t leave anybody out. You can make a difference. Come share the joy.

Louisville Seminary calls Michael Jinkins as its ninth PresidentRev. Dr. Conrad Sharps has served as the search committee chair
“Of the many diverse and qualified candidates we considered and engaged in prayerful conversation and discernment, Dr. Jinkins most envisioned our mission to educate men and women to participate in the redemptive ministry of Jesus Christ in the world,” said Trustee Conrad Sharps, of Birmingham, Ala., who served as the search committee chair. The committee was comprised of representatives from the Board of Trustees, faculty, administration, staff, alumni association, and student body.
Regarding his credentials, Sharps summarized, “Michael Jinkins possesses the array of experience, instincts, wisdom, patience, intellect, and temperament that is required of a successful seminary president,…he understands the vocation and calling of a pastor and the training and equipping necessary for effective pastors, and …he is one of the most promising academicians and administrators in the Presbyterian family of seminaries.” (The Presbyterian Outlook)

The Family of the late Major General John D. Higgins (U.S. Army) who was President of the Congregation in 1954, is honoring his memory and his service to country and church through an extended commitment of financial support for the weekly flowers on the War Memorial located just inside the sanctuary from the Parlor entrance. Additional donors may still designate a particular Sunday to honor their loved ones who are currently serving or who have previously served in any branch of service by contacting Valerie Pankey at 933.7060 and sending in a check for $20 made payable to IPC MEMORIAL FLOWERS. Please let Mrs. Pankey know the name of the honoree and the date you wish their name recognized. FUNERAL USHERS NEEDED. Do you like to help someone in a time of need, but sometimes wonder what you have to offer? Are you at a loss for words when you try to express your condolences at a time of death? Would you believe it if you were told that ushering at funeral and memorial services can be a most rewarding experience for you as well as a tangible way for you to offer your support to those who grieve? We need to expand our list of volunteers...men and women...for this important ministry at IPC. Since we only have one or two days' notice before a service is held, we understand that some volunteers will not be available when we need them. This makes it even more important to have a large pool of volunteers from which to draw. Please contact Jeannine Usher in Congregational Care at 933-3694 to add your name to the list. If you have any questions about the duties and time commitment, please call Lucy Turner at 933-3706. Living in the Spirit Living in Community Living in Service to Others Celebrating the ten thousandth new well with clean drinking water in AfricaThursday, December 10, IPC hosted Marion Medical Mission (MMM) for a Foundation Luncheon.
Marion Medical Mission (MMM) builds shallow wells in Africa. Each well provides sustainable, clean, safe, protected drinking water to a village populated primarily by subsistence farmers. Through the program, the health, happiness, and general welfare of hundreds of thousands of villagers has been improved. The IPC Foundation has been a major supporter of MMM since 2006. Click here for a description of MMM in the IPC Foundation 2007 Annual Report.

It explains all the many activities going on at IPC in one place with detailed information on all of our offerings for study, service, and general community events along with contact information. You can pick one up in the Narthex on Sunday mornings or at the receptionist's desk.
