Margaret Cobbs, Assistant Director Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Margaret joined the IPC Children’s Ministries staff in September, 2013. A lifelong member of IPC, she feels very fortunate to be the Assistant Director of Catechesis at IPC. She became a Level I trained catechist in May 2013, and a Level II trained catechist in May 2014.
Margaret graduated from the University of Virginia in 1999 with a degree in English. She married Archie Cobbs in August, 1999, at IPC, and they lived in San Carlos, California. Margaret worked as a purse designer for several years until leaving her business to focus on motherhood when their daughter Virginia was born in 2002. Archie and Margaret moved back home to Birmingham in 2003 to be closer to family, and were blessed with two more daughters, Ivy in 2003 and Spencer in 2007.
Margaret served on the IPC Day School Subcommittee from 2008-2012, and as chair of the Subcommittee from 2011-2012. It was during her time in this capacity, while also serving on the Christian Education Committee, that she first became interested in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. This method of spiritual formation inspired her to learn more and to eventually partner with Kay Roller, first on a volunteer basis, to bring Catechesis to IPC. This journey has been fulfilling in so many ways. Margaret and Kay are so grateful not only to our own congregation for their support, but to our larger Birmingham faith-based community for their ecumenical embrace and amazing guidance in implementing Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at IPC.
Margaret says," I feel great joy in contributing in a small way to the church that has given me so much throughout my life."
